To set up ping post in LeadExec, create a Ping Post campaign to receive pings from your lead sources, set its Ping Options, and configure the Ping Post Delivery Method for buyers who want to bid on leads. Turn on Ping During Sort so buyer bids are part of the buyer scan, then test both the ping and the post before going live. A lead source must post the full lead within 5 minutes of receiving the Ping Order ID.
This guide brings together the setup steps from existing LeadExec help articles. For background on how ping post works, see LeadExec Ping Post Lead Distribution Explained.
What Do You Need Before You Start?
A Lead Type. The Lead Type defines the fields a lead carries. It cannot be changed after the campaign is created.
A Lead Source. This is the supplier that will send pings and posts into your Ping Post campaign.
Your buyer's technical details (for outbound ping post). Get the PING and POST endpoints, the content type (such as JSON, XML, or form-encoded), the required fields for the ping and the post, the request body format, and the response settings, such as how acceptance and rejection are shown and where the bid value appears.
Step 1: How Do You Create a Ping Post Campaign?
A Ping Post campaign receives inbound pings from a lead source. For full details, see Creating a Ping Post Campaign.
Go to Campaigns and click Create, or open the Lead Source Details page and click Create Campaign.
On General Information, select the Lead Source, enter a Campaign Name, set Channel to Ping Post, and select the Lead Type. The Lead Source, Channel, and Lead Type cannot be changed after the campaign is created.
Choose the payout option for the campaign and make sure the Status is set to Active.
On Delivery Options, choose how leads are delivered (Any Qualified Clients, Single Client, Multiple Clients, or Exclusive Groups), the Automation Method, and the Maximum Delivery Count.
On Quality Options, turn on the checks you need, such as Duplicate Check, Standardize Address, Append City/State, Mobile Check, and Geolocate IP. Some checks have a per-lead fee.
On Quantity Limits, set hourly, daily, or monthly limits. A value of 0 means unlimited.
Click Create.
Step 2: How Do You Configure Ping Options?
Open the campaign's Ping Options tab. These settings decide whether LeadExec returns a bid to the lead source:
Revenue Requirement: The minimum revenue that must be available before LeadExec returns a bid.
Profit Requirement: The minimum profit required (revenue minus lead cost).
Profit Percentage Requirement: The minimum profit expressed as a percentage.
Minimum Delivery Count: The minimum number of matching buyers LeadExec must find. For example, if it is set to 2, LeadExec must find at least two eligible buyers before it returns a bid.
Qualify All Criteria: When on, buyers are qualified using all available criteria. When off, buyers are qualified only against the field values sent in the ping.
Field Requirements: Which lead fields must be in the ping (required or optional). These settings appear in the posting instructions for the lead source.
When the campaign is ready, give your lead source its posting instructions. See How to Generate Posting Instructions. For the rest of the campaign tabs, see Ping Post Lead Campaign Advanced Settings.
Step 3: How Do You Set Up the Ping Post Delivery Method for Buyers?
Outbound ping post sends a ping to a buyer first, then posts the full lead if the buyer accepts. One Ping Post Delivery Method holds both the PING and POST configurations, so you do not need separate delivery methods. For full details, see Setting Up a Ping Post Lead Delivery in LeadExec and Ping Post Delivery Method.
Go to Delivery Methods and click Create.
Enter a Description and select the Lead Type.
In the PING Configuration, set the URL Endpoint, Authentication, Mappings, Request Body, Response Settings, and Retry Settings.
In the POST Configuration, set the same items for the full lead.
Map your LeadExec fields to the buyer's field names (for example, FirstName to first_name).
Go to Delivery Accounts, click Create, enter a Description, and select the Ping Post Delivery Method you created.
Step 4: How Do You Turn On Ping During Sort?
Open the Ping Post Delivery Method and go to the Response Settings tab. Turn on Ping During Sort.
With Ping During Sort on, LeadExec sends outbound pings during the buyer scan, while it is still deciding which delivery accounts match the lead. It sends pings in parallel, collects buyer responses and pricing, and uses the returned bids when it sorts buyers. For the response fields, see Ping Post Response Settings Tab.
Step 5: How Do You Send a Test Ping and Post?
Test both the PING and the POST requests before going live.
For inbound ping post, send a test ping and post to your campaign using its posting instructions. You can use Postman to send a test lead. See Getting Started - Testing Your Setup, Pt. 2: Using Postman to Create a Test Lead.
For outbound ping post, check that the buyer's endpoint responds. Tools such as Postman, Curl, or RequestBin can help you test an endpoint.
Review the delivery logs to confirm the ping was accepted, the bid was read, and the post was delivered.
Why Do Pings Expire?
LeadExec requires the full lead to be posted within 5 minutes of the ping response. A ping that is not followed by a post within that window expires. To avoid expired pings:
Ask the lead source to post the full lead within 5 minutes of receiving the Ping Order ID.
Make sure the post includes the Ping Order ID so LeadExec can match it to the original ping.
What Should You Check If Leads Are Not Posting to a Buyer?
Leads are not posting: Check that the ping response contains the expected acceptance value and that the bid is being read correctly in the Response Settings.
Fields are not mapping: Check that your field mappings match the buyer's field names.
The buyer rejects the request format: Check that the content type matches what the buyer expects.
No response from the buyer: Test the endpoint with Postman, Curl, or RequestBin to confirm it is active and responding.
